WHO IS IN YOUR BOAT?

Pastor: Joel Hess Series: DISCIPLESHIP

Opening Questions:

  1. What does your community look like right now?
  2. How is your community helping you grow in your faith, and how are you helping them?
  3. Who are some people you need to pursue in order to bring them into community?

Text Questions:

  1. Luke 5:5 What was Simon Peter’s response in this passage? Why did he obey?
  2. Luke 5:1-11 What was Simon Peter’s occupation? How does his occupation make the miracle even greater?
  3. Luke 5:8 In this passage, Simon Peter calls Jesus “Lord,” which translates to Jehovah Jireh. Why did Simon Peter change the name he used for Jesus? How is Jesus Jehovah Jireh in your life?
  4. Luke 5:11 We see not only Simon Peter but also James and John leave everything to follow Jesus. What would this look like in our culture, and are we doing it?
  5. Matthew 14:25-29 When Peter sees Jesus walking on water, he asks if Jesus could “tell me to come to you on the water.” Why does he ask this?
  6. Matthew 14:32-33 After Jesus and Peter get back into the boat, the disciples worship Jesus, saying, “Truly you are the Son of God.” What led them to make this statement? In our own walk, what brings us to make this claim?
  7. In both passages, we see a member of the community experience breakthrough through obedience, and the entire community is blessed. In what ways do we see this in our own community?
