WEEK 20: Empty Grave

Read: John Chapter 20

The resurrection is the crux of our faith. If Jesus is not risen, we are still in our sins and Christianity is futile. Everything comes down to His miracle and victory over death. Let it be said that Jesus is risen! He first appeared to the women who were going to the tomb. Then to the disciples and over 500 witnesses. Even Thomas who doubted could not deny the reality of His resurrected Lord. One encounter with Jesus can change your life forever. There are many who have claimed to be the Messiah, but they are still in the grave. There are many prophets and teachers, but only One Living Hope who conquered the grave. The name of Jesus is above all other names to the glory of God. If you are having a difficult week, let this Scripture sink in deeply. Because He lives, we can face tomorrow. This is the good news that makes you want to shout it from the rooftops. Millions of people are online searching if God is real and if God is good. Your neighbors are spiritually confused. You know that Jesus is the answer, and there is a cure for our sin-sick souls. He is risen indeed!

Hope Point: Jesus is the Resurrection.

Reflection Questions:

1. What is the significance of the empty tomb? (John 20:1-9)
2. How does Jesus care for Mary Magdalene? (John 20:10-18)
3. How does the resurrection bring you joy? (John 20:19-20)
4. What has Jesus sent us into the world to do? (John 20:21-22)
5. How is Jesus both gracious and clear with Thomas? (John 20:24-31)

Who can you share this Scripture with during the upcoming week?

Prayer:

Glorious God, You are unstoppable. Your purposes prevail. Jesus, You are our living hope. Thank You for the empty tomb, the 500 witnesses, the testimony of the angels, the changed lives of the disciples, and Your abundant power and grace. Death, despair, demons, and the devil have been defeated. You are risen Jesus! We eagerly await Your return. We spread the good news to all people boldly through the mighty Holy Spirit. We reject fear and walk in love. For your glory we pray Jesus, amen.
