PRAY AND OBEY

Pastor: Jesse Bradley Series: The Calling Scripture: Jonah 3:1–10

WEEK 3:

Read: Jonah Chapter 3

God is gracious and gives us second chances. The calling hasn’t changed, but Jonah is going in a new direction. Our calling includes closeness to God. Our calling includes our character.

Our calling includes taking action.

Our calling is glorious. Blessings abound when we are faithful to God. When we take simple steps of obedience, God does a supernatural work. Jonah communicates God’s Word and God changes hearts. You never know who will respond to the gospel, but everyone should have the opportunity to hear the good news of Jesus.

Scripture is living and active.

We don’t have to add any power to it. The Bible will accomplish its’ purpose. We just need to share it. Freely we have received, so freely we will give. We are blessed to be a blessing. Start with one person and lead them to Jesus and the community of faith. Everyone reaches one person. This is how God’s family and kingdom grow daily. The indestructible hope of Jesus is for people of all nations and tribes.

Hope Point: Be faithful to God and trust Him with the results.

Reflection Questions:

1) When has God given you a second chance? (Jonah 3:1-2)
2) How can you share God’s Word with more people during the week? (Jonah 3:3-4)
3) When have you seen someone turn to God and believe? (Jonah 3:5)
4) How can we use our roles and influence to lead people to Jesus? (Jonah 3:6-9)
5) What does it mean that God is merciful and compassionate? (Jonah 3:10)
6) Who can you share this Scripture with during the upcoming week?

Prayer:

Faithful God, You keep all of Your promises. You never lie or mislead us. Your plans and direction are trustworthy. Your word is a light unto our path. Your reassurance gives us security. Thank You for second chances. We want to be faithful to Your calling. We will declare Your goodness where we live, work, learn, and play. Your perspective renews our minds. In a chaotic and confused world, Jesus, You are our peace. There is no other Messiah and Savior. We worship You Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. We praise You and serve You now with gratitude, reverence, and awe. In the mighty and glorious name of Jesus we pray, amen.
