THE INNER LIFE AND HEART OF JESUS

Pastor: Jesse Peters Series: Easter Scripture: John 13:1–5

Text Questions:
1. In John 13:1, John mentions Jesus knew his "hour had come." How does knowing all the pain and suffering Jesus would endure change the way you view His decision to spend time with the disciples and serve them?

2. The text says Jesus loved His own "to the end" (or "to the uttermost"). What does "loving to the end" look like for Jesus? How does your view of Jesus change based on the text?

3. John 13:3 highlights that Jesus knew "the Father had given all things into his hands". What comfort is Jesus' sovereignty and complete control for us today?

4. Washing feet was the job of the lowest servant. What does this specific act tell us about the heart of Jesus and who He is as the second person of the Trinity?

5. Looking at these five verses, which aspect of Jesus’ character—His sovereignty (the hour), His commitment (His love), or His humility (His heart)—do you need to lean into most this week?

6. Are you Jesus' own? If yes, how do you know that you belong to Jesus? How have you found rest in the person and work of Jesus?

7. In Matthew 11:28-30, Jesus reveals who He is, what His heart is like. Meditate on these verses and come rest in Him. Who can you invite to discover the heart of Jesus?

Final Word
Should we ever doubt the love of Jesus for us, all we need to do is look to the cross. Jesus loved us enough to submit Himself to the worst death possible—death under the wrath and curse of God. He did this because it was the only way to reconcile us to God. If we trust in Christ for salvation, let us look to His cross this day for renewed assurance of His love for us.
